How to Add Actions to an Incident

Incident actions are the immediate steps taken to manage and control an unexpected event or situation that could pose a threat to the safety of people, property, or the environment.
This article outlines the steps required to create action items and is split into the following sections:

1. Types of Actions
The table below outlines the types of actions that can be created:
| Action Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Corrective Action | A systematic approach to identifying the root cause of the problem and developing a plan to prevent it from recurring. The goal of corrective action is to eliminate the root cause of the problem and improve the overall quality and effectiveness of the process, product, or system. |
| Preventative Action (Also known as Preventive Action) | A proactive measure taken to prevent a problem or nonconformity from occurring (or re-occuring if an incident has already taken place). They are designed to reduce the likelihood of problems, errors, or defects from occurring and to minimize the impact if they do occur. |
| Containment Action | A temporary measure taken to prevent a problem from getting worse or spreading to other areas while the root cause is being identified and a permanent solution is developed. |
2. How to Add a Corrective Action
- Click Modules and then Incident Management.
- Click Manage Incident Reports.
- Click on the ID of the incident to update the details.
- Browse to the Action Items section.
- Click New.
- Set the Action Item Type to Corrective Action.
- Complete all other required fields.
- Click Save.
3. How to Add a Preventative Action
- Click Modules and then Incident Management.
- Click Manage Incident Reports.
- Click on the ID of the incident to update the details.
- Browse to the Action Items section.
- Click New.
- Set the Action Item Type to Preventive Action.
- Complete all other required fields.
- Click Save.
4. How to Add a Containment Action
- Click Modules and then Incident Management.
- Click Manage Incident Reports.
- Click on the ID of the incident to update the details.
- Browse to the Action Items section.
- Click New.
- Set the Action Item Type to Preventive Action.
- Complete all other required fields.
- Click Save.
