1. What Is RIDDOR?
RIDDOR stands for the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations. A RIDDOR form is a form used to report certain types of accidents, incidents, and diseases that occur in the workplace.
Under RIDDOR regulations in the UK, employers, self-employed individuals, and individuals in control of certain premises are required to report specific types of incidents to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or the relevant local authority. These incidents include:
- Work-related deaths
- Serious injuries
- Cases of certain work-related diseases
- Dangerous occurrences (incidents that could have led to serious harm)
When an incident occurs that is reportable under RIDDOR regulations, a RIDDOR form should be completed and sent to the appropriate authority within 10 days of the incident. The information provided in the form helps the HSE and local authorities to monitor and improve health and safety in the workplace.
