To support global users and ensure consistent experiences across languages, we’ve enhanced our system with a centralised interface for managing translations. This update empowers administrators to efficiently oversee multilingual tags for custom data sources, improving accuracy, reducing redundancy, and streamlining workflows. It is fully supported on mobile devices and does not impact on any existing forms, ensuring a seamless transition for current users.
1. Current limitations
While the existing system supports multiple languages, it lacks a user-friendly interface and centralized control for managing language-specific tags. Administrators have limited visibility and control when editing or updating translations, which can lead to inconsistencies across applications.
2. What’s new
The enhanced system introduces a dedicated interface for managing language tags, designed to simplify multilingual support and give administrators greater control over custom data sources.
3. Language tag management for custom data sources
- Administrators can view, create, and edit language tags directly within the system.
- Tag management is available only for custom data sources. System data sources remain managed through initial setup.
- Tags displayed are filtered by the selected data source but may be shared across multiple sources or field labels.
- When a tag value matches across various sources or labels, updates are applied globally to maintain consistency.
- The system prevents duplicate tags for identical strings, promoting efficient reuse across applications.
- A warning message is displayed when editing shared tags: translations applied to a matching tag will update globally across all relevant data sources and field labels.
4. Improved user interface and experience
- A dedicated modal allows administrators to manage translations in a structured, intuitive format.
- To enable multilingual tag management, the data source must first be set to Support Multilingual = Yes.
- Once enabled, the Manage Translations button opens a modal displaying all available translations grouped by language.
- Administrators can switch between supported languages using the language selection dropdown.
- Tags are presented in a clear key-value format for easy editing.
Note: This update does not impact existing forms and is fully supported on mobile devices.
